Carbon Trading: A critical conversation on climate change, privatisation and power

Dag Hammarskjold Foundation, Durban Group for Climate Justice and The Corner House, Development Dialogue, no. 48, september 2006 The primary international response to climate change is carbon trading, a failing market mechanism delaying the end of fossil fuel explpoitation and therefore worsening the problem of climate change. Carbon trading has created multiple new problems of its own and, as a mechanism designed by the powerful in their own interests, brings up critical questions of power, colonialism and privatisation which are essential to tackling the climate problem.
